with Natalie Hyman
Sunday, June 28
This workshop is designed for those who are already on a path of recovery from addiction and/or those who are becoming aware of their own negative or destructive behavior patterns and wish to change them.
Anything used to escape an intolerable reality is something that could lead to or form an addiction. One definition for addiction is any behavior you continue to do despite the fact that it brings negative consequences into your life. Usually, these behaviors include one or more of the following: alcohol; drugs; food; people (co-dependency, sex); money (gambling, shopping); or technology. People dealing with addictive behaviors often experience disconnection, loneliness, depression, and anxiety. They may have difficulty being present – their minds racing with fears about the future or anxiety about the past.
Can yoga help? Yes! By connecting the mind, body, and spirit using breath, movement, and mindfulness, we can experience ease and comfort. We begin to heal.
In this workshop we will:
• Explore the striking similarities between yoga philosophy & 12-Step spiritual principles
• Learn about great yoga-related resources for people in recovery
• Discuss the benefits of a daily practice that supports personal transformation, including Kundalini & Hatha yoga, meditation, breath work, & spiritual connection
• Enjoy an intentional Hatha yoga flow practice followed by a special Kundalini meditation
This workshop is appropriate for all levels. Please bring yoga mat, pen, & journal/paper.
